Does AI Search Know Your Arvada Business? A Self-Check With Six Prompts
By Jonathan Otto, Founder, RankiN AIs, Arvada, CO · Published October 24, 2026 · Last updated October 24, 2026
To find out whether AI search knows your Arvada business, run six questions through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Google AI, at least three times each, and log what they say. One answer proves little, because 8ight found a median 29% of the businesses named were the same when ChatGPT got one local question twice. RankiN AIs in Arvada, Colorado, built this self-check from its AI Search Trust Audit so you can run it yourself.
Key takeaways
- Test two things. Ask whether AI names you for your service, and whether it states your facts correctly when someone asks about you by name.
- Repeat every prompt. BrightLocal found two runs of the same local prompt shared only 21% to 33% of their businesses, depending on the tool.
- A business seen once came back in about half of later runs. BrightLocal measured 50% for ChatGPT and Google AI Mode and 58% for AI Overviews.
- Put the place in the question. OpenAI says to include your city, neighborhood or postal code if local results show the wrong area.
- Log the sources, not only the names. The pages an answer cites show where your facts need fixing.
- The results guarantee nothing, and no test can promise placement.
What does it mean for AI search to "know" your business?
It means two things. AI can name you when a customer asks for your service, and AI can state your facts correctly when someone asks about you by name. Test both, because they fail in different ways.
BrightLocal left branded prompts out of its 200,000-prompt study so they would not skew results. That is the discovery side. The by-name side is where wrong phone numbers, old hours and missing services show up. The six prompts below cover both.
Which six prompts should you run?
Run these six, with your own service and place filled in. The first five follow the baseline prompts RankiN AIs uses in its AI Search Trust Audit, with Arvada filled in. The sixth tests how the place name changes the answer.
| # | Prompt type | Example wording | Test it on | What to log |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Best provider | Who is the best plumber in Arvada, CO? Name specific businesses. | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Google AI | Businesses named, order, sources cited |
| 2 | Trust | Is [your business name] in Arvada, CO legit? | ChatGPT, Perplexity, DeepSeek | Facts stated, reviews mentioned, complaints, sources |
| 3 | Comparison | Who should I hire in Arvada, [your business name] or [a competitor]? | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek | Which one wins and the reason given |
| 4 | Emergency | Who should I call for emergency plumbing in Arvada, CO? | ChatGPT, Google AI, Perplexity, DeepSeek | Hours claims, competitors, sources |
| 5 | Entity facts | What services does [your business name] in Arvada, CO offer? | ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek | Wrong facts, missing services, old information |
| 6 | Place variant | Who is the best plumber near Olde Town Arvada? Repeat with 80003 and with Denver. | ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Google AI | Whether the list changes when the place changes |
Use your own trade in place of plumbing. The wording of prompt 1 follows 8ight's study, which asked each engine "Who is the best {trade} in {city}? Name specific businesses." For prompt 5, also ask for the hours and phone number the tool gives, and compare them with your own records. None of the studies cited in this guide tested DeepSeek, so the only DeepSeek numbers you will have are the ones in your own log.
How many times should you run each prompt?
Run each prompt at least three times per tool, in a new chat each time. The studies show why one run is not enough.

BrightLocal also found that 71% to 80% of businesses appeared in half of the attempts or fewer. 8ight saw a median 29% overlap between two ChatGPT answers a median 39 minutes apart. Neither number is a flaw in your test. It is how these tools behave.
So count frequency, not wins. If you were named in 2 of 3 runs on ChatGPT, write 2 of 3. BrightLocal puts it this way: showing up in one of every two searches is one thing, and showing up in one of every ten is another.
The count of three runs is RankiN AIs' suggestion. No study sets a minimum.
How do you keep the test clean?
Start each run in a fresh state, and keep your own history out of it.
- Use a new chat for every run.
- Do not mention your business in prompts 1 and 4. A leading question tells the tool the answer.
- Know that location and memory change answers. OpenAI says ChatGPT may use an approximate location from your IP address, and that a VPN can shift it. OpenAI also says saved memories can influence a search.
- Remember that people who are not signed in can also use ChatGPT's web search, according to OpenAI. A signed-out test removes memory from the picture.
- Save the cited sources. OpenAI says search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect, and that you should open a cited source to check it.
BrightLocal found something relevant to the place test. Moving a searcher across one town changed the results. The overlap between points was 36.2% for ChatGPT, 46.9% for AI Mode and 47.4% for AI Overviews. So prompt 6 matters.
What should the log sheet look like?
Keep one row per run. Copy this table into a spreadsheet.
| Date | Tool | Prompt # | Run | Named? | Position | Facts right? | Sources cited | Competitors named |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 24 | ChatGPT, signed out | 1 | 1 of 3 | Yes or no | 1st to 5th | n/a | List the domains | List them |
Then score the sources. RankiN AIs scores each cited source from 0 to 5 in the AI Search Trust Audit. A 0 is a missing or unusable source, such as no profile. A 3 is a valid listing with a generic description. A 5 is a detailed page with proof, FAQs, schema and local examples. Low scores become the fix list.
What do the results tell you?
The result of each prompt falls into one of four cases. The table pairs each case with the first thing to check.
| What you see | What it likely means | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Named and the facts are right | The sources agree with your records right now | Keep your listings current and repeat the test monthly |
| Named but a fact is wrong | A source holds old information | Open the cited source and fix it there. Then check your matching record |
| Not named, competitors are | You may not be in the tool's pool of candidates | Check your profile, your service pages and the sources competitors have |
| "No information found" | The tool cannot find enough about you | Check that your website is indexed and that your profile exists and is verified |
The middle column is reasoning from the studies, not a guarantee. Yext's research says clear location data is associated with being named, and that reviews and activity help once you are in the set.
How does this self-check relate to AceTrace?
The six prompts show what AI says about your business today. AceTrace is RankiN AIs' AI Citation Engineering framework. It follows seven stages: Discovered, Understood, Retrieved, Verified, Trusted, Cited and Recommended.
AceTrace does not guarantee a citation or a recommendation, because each AI system controls its own retrieval and answers.
What does this look like in Arvada and the Denver metro?
Name the place the way your customers do. A customer may say Arvada, Olde Town Arvada, Wadsworth Boulevard or Denver. Wikipedia lists Olde Town Arvada as the historic heart of the city and Wadsworth Boulevard, Ralston Road and Kipling Street as its main restaurant and retail corridors. Test with the names your customers use.
Check which city name your listings carry. For ZIP code 80003, Hometown Locator lists Arvada as the USPS preferred city and Westminster as an acceptable one. If your listings say Westminster, run prompt 1 with both names.
Expect ChatGPT to reach farther than Google. BrightLocal found 90% of ChatGPT's picks fell within 287 km, about 178 miles, of the searcher, against 38 to 64 km for Google's AI.
What should you avoid while testing?
Avoid anything that fakes the evidence. The AI Search Trust Audit has firm rules.
- Do not write fake reviews, create fake accounts or post fake citations.
- Do not plant phrases about your business in forums or directories to steer an answer.
- Do not hide a bad result. A wrong fact is a fix, so log it.
- Do not judge by one screenshot. 8ight says a single screenshot, yours or a vendor's, proves little.
- Do not pay anyone who promises a spot in ChatGPT. OpenAI says placement in ChatGPT search is not guaranteed.
FAQ
How do I check if ChatGPT knows my local business?
Open a new, signed-out chat and ask the six prompts in the table, with your trade and Arvada in the wording. Run each prompt three times. Write down whether you were named, what the answer said and which sources it cited.
Why does AI give different answers each time I ask?
The businesses an AI tool finds change between runs. BrightLocal measured an average overlap of 21% to 33% between two runs of the same prompt. 8ight measured a median 29% for ChatGPT.
Does it matter if I am signed in or signed out?
It can. OpenAI says ChatGPT may use saved memories to rewrite a search, and that it uses an approximate location from your IP address. A signed-out test gives a cleaner baseline. People who are not signed in can also use ChatGPT's web search.
What should I do if AI gets my facts wrong?
Fix the source it cited. Open the cited page, correct the wrong detail there if you control it, and check your name, address, phone and hours on your website, your Google Business Profile and your main listings. OpenAI also says you can ask ChatGPT to search again using a specific source, date or location.
How often should I run the test?
RankiN AIs suggests monthly, using the same prompts and the same wording. That cadence is our suggestion. BrightLocal says businesses should track AI presence on an ongoing basis, because the lists change.
Is one screenshot enough to show my results?
No. 8ight says a single screenshot proves little and that you should ask how many times a question was asked, on which engine and on which date. Keep the log sheet and show the count.
